I Promise. An exhibition of Sráč Sam

On March 14, a solo exhibition of Czech artist Sráč Sam entitled I Promise will open in Prague's SVĚTOVA 1 gallery. The project was originally conceived for the Czech-Slovak pavilion of the Venice Biennale and curated by Tereza Stejskalová and František Fekete. I Promise tells the history of art through the passing moments of everyday life, relationships, and conversations between artists and those who do not consider themselves artists. It highlights care and the unpaid labor of women rather than the grand gestures and genius acts of men that have traditionally served as touchstones in history. The gallery is filled with everyday objects—porcelain plates with poetic texts fired on them or pillows. In the second, participatory part of the exhibition, visitors will be able to take home one of one hundred drawings by the artist in exchange for taking a pledge. Do you promise to give art your attention?

Third edition of the Festival of Performance Art

The third edition of the Festival of Performance Art will take place in November 2025 in Prague. The theme of the festival will focus on experiencing different forms of queer corporeality and spirituality. The format is a continuation of previous editions, which took place at the X10 Theatre (We Are All Emotional, 2022) and at the Ankali Club (To Leave is to Return Another Way, 2023). Invited artists will create new, site-specific works, which will be performed in a one-night program.

Four new books

In the last newsletter we introduced our publishing plan for 2025. The first publication, coming out in May, will be the Czech translation of the novel Love Me Tender by French writer Constance Debré, which we will present for the first time at the book fair Svět knihy in Prague. In September you can look forward to the catalog of the Prádelna Collective Píčou ke zdi, which will be designed by Hoài Lê Thị. December will see the release of the highly anticipated Czech translation of the cult classic of feminist theory Caliban and the Witch (2004) by Italian-American scholar, teacher, and feminist activist Silvia Federici. The book explores the roots of the witch hunts in the early modern period, arguing that they served to create and enforce a newly established role for women in society, who were condemned to unpaid reproductive labor to meet the needs of the emerging capitalist order. The book will be available in December 2025, as will the novel trans girl suicide museum by hannah baer, a New York psychologist and author of the meme instagram account @malefragility.

Art Space Unlimited

This year marks the culmination of the two-year project Art Space Unlimited, which connects five European non-profit arts organisations, including tranzit.cz. During the following months, two study and networking trips of cultural staff and curators of the participating organisations will take place. One to Pristina (February) and the other to Budapest (May). They will include seminars for professionals on accessibility in the arts and several mediation programs for the general public. The events are organised by the Hungarian OFF-Biennale and the Kosovo Foundation 17, further information will be provided on their websites.
