Raut is a discussion podcast about contemporary art with a focus on marginal and borderline forms of art and the transformation of artistic strategies that enter into open and active relationships with other disciplines and communities. The hosts of the series are Agáta Hrnčířová and Max Dvořák, and the dramaturge is A2larm editor Táňa Zabloudilová. Please note that the podcast is available only in Czech.

While the Czech word “raut” refers to a formal banquet, in its original form the word “rout” is used to describe a disorderly retreat from danger – a hasty and disorganized withdrawal. Today we are at the beginning of an irreversible transformation of society as a result of global events such as climate change and the pandemic, and art is now finding its place, perhaps a little chaotically and disorderly, in this new order. Culture, which was for some time completely paralyzed by the pandemic crisis, is now becoming a somewhat protected place for marginal, borderline, and variable art forms and strategies. Participants of the art world are developing active relationships across disciplines and communities. Together with their audiences, they are turning their attention simultaneously to the inner essence and to the outer context of artistic practice. The podcast series Raut is a space for discussions about contemporary art that is open to self-criticism, activism, collectivity, and an intensified sensitivity to an uncertain future.

The podcast is a part of the tranzit.cz / Biennale Matter of Art project Center and Periphery: Cultural Deserts in Eastern Europe, funded by a grant from  Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway (EEA and Norway Grants) in the program Culture.
