Radical intimacy and summer cinema

As part of Pride Week, on Thursday, August 6, the collective behind the community music platform Shella Radio will bring an event to the garden of the Vršovice club Planeta Za, featuring debates on queer art and safe spaces, poetry readings, and a sound performance. The list of panelists includes, among others, Zai Xu from the Prague artist-run gallery SVĚTOVA 1, the curator of our biennial Jaroslava Tomanová, and others. 

Guided tours of the largest biennale venue at the National Gallery Prague in the Trade Fair Palace will take place on August 6 (in Czech), August 20 (in English), and August 29 (in Czech), each led by Denisa Michalinová. Also held at the National Gallery are the collective readings of thought-provoking feminist texts facilitated by the grassroots collective kroužek intersekce, inviting to explore less common perspectives on how we think about our society. The August readings will focus on radical forms of friendship (August 4), and two weeks later (August 18) on the transformative potential of dance. August 13 will be ideal for a trip to the GAMPA gallery in Pardubicefor the biennial exhibition featuring works by Alex Sihelsk*, Běla Kolářová, Cezary Bodzianowski, and others. In the early evening, the co-curator František Fekete will guide you through the installation. The evening continues at the piazzetta in front of the gallery. GAMPA’s Summer Cinema screening will feature a curated selection of films by artists from the biennial. Another guided tour in Pardubice will take place on August 27. Admission is free!

Throughout August, you can sign up for a four-day workshop on traditional Palestinian embroidery, which will take place during the first week of September at the Trade Fair Palace, led by artist Nour Shantout. “Embroidery is deeply personal and yet inherently political. It carries the struggles, resilience, and adaptability of generations of women. My work is about preserving these stories while reimagining their place in today’s world,” the artist says about her practice. Participation in the workshop is free until capacity is filled.

On August 27, Tusculum Prague will host the third edition of the workshop facilitated by the StonyTellers collective, inviting the audience to embrace the wonders of the park around the art center.
