Pyre of Afterblism is a ritual performance by Sinclair Brazier and Ester Grohová. It follows the story of a witch faced with a mortal decision and a changeling-child, a creature burdened by the weight of a world to which it never belonged.
Drawing from both Caliban and the Witch and trans girl suicide museum, the piece explores the marginalized body and its placement—or displacement—within the fabric of an inhospitable, oppressive society. What does it mean to contain and to be contained… to keep and be kept… to possess and belong? What is the burden of existing in a collapsing empire, and how might one transgress these conditions and find a home in another.
“Elsewhere. Mismeant. Misrule.
Locust eats feather. Fossil eats cloud.
The Pyre of Afterblism couldn’t be helped…”
