Běla Kolářová

Běla Kolářová (*1923, Terezín, Czechoslovakia, ✝2010, Prague, Czech Republic) was a Czech visual artist associated with the postwar avant-garde, known for her innovative approach to photography and object-based art. In the 1960s she created so-called artificial photographs—images produced without a camera, where the compositions were formed directly on film using hair, small objects, or household materials. Later on she devoted herself to subtle assemblages and reliefs, often incorporating cosmetic items or everyday objects. Her work has an intimate, meditative character and is now regarded as an important part of Czech and European conceptual art.
