This hands-on workshop led by studio dreiSt. (Vienna) and the StonyTellers collective (Prague) invites participants to collaborate in creating small-scale furnishings and garden installations at the Tusculum residency center in Prague. Over the course of several days, elements for a community garden—seating, storage boxes, and structures for climbing plants—will be created from recycled and reused materials. During the workshop, the architectural studio dreiSt. will share its experience and know-how regarding working with discarded materials. Participants will gain practical skills and inspiration regarding how to approach sustainable design for outdoor spaces. The goal is to subsequently make the space accessible to various users—including patients from the neighboring long-term care facility—and to create a freely accessible quiet zone for relaxation. The workshop is part of the accompanying program of the Biennale Matter of Art, and it is open to members of the public interested in participatory creation. No prior experience is required to participate in the workshop, and it is free of charge.
The StonyTellers collective’s project “In the Garden” is taking place on the grounds of the Tusculum Prague art center, which is operated by the platform Petrohradská kolektiv. The project is part of the 2026 Biennale Matter of Art, organized by the contemporary art initiative tranzit.cz. The preparatory workshop is sponsored by the Prague architecture gallery VI PER in collaboration with the Vienna-based studio dreiSt. VI PER is part of the LINA platform, supported by the European Union. The creation of the garden is supported by a grant from the Via Foundation.

studio dreiSt.
studio dreiSt. is an architectural collective founded by Martin Kohlbauer, Sophie Coqui, and Luisa Zwetkow. Coming from an architectural background, their interest lies in questioning current design and building practices by following material agency. Their work is grounded in a process-oriented, hands-on approach that embraces reuse, improvisation, and collaboration across disciplines.
StonyTellers
StonyTellers is an art collective founded in 2019 in Prague. The collective’s work includes installations, performances, and text-based projects. Through these activities, it explores themes of sustainability, working conditions, care, and sharing. It actively reflects on current social and political challenges and supports the creation of communities based on solidarity.
LINA
The European platform LINA is a network connecting relevant institutions with emerging practitioners and thinkers who work at the intersection of architecture and other fields related to spatial culture. LINA aims to promote up-and-coming talent and to steer design and building processes toward regenerative practices and principles of degrowth.
VI PER
VI PER Gallery focuses on architecture in the broadest sense, together with its relations and points of intersection with contemporary art, urbanism, design, and media as well as the political, legal, social, economic, and ecological contexts which help to shape architecture and the built environment.
Tusculum
Tusculum Prague is an atelier and residency center, part of the cultural and artistic platform Petrohradská kolektiv. The project has been working with the site of the historic Chittussi Hospital complex and its park since late 2023. The facilities consist of two historic buildings with studios connected by the Tusculum Garden park, an outdoor exhibition and art space for intergenerational gatherings of the contemporary art scene. The park also serves the patients and operations of the hospital (LDN Praha 6), which is administered by the Prague 6 City District, and the space is open to the public as well. The complex functions as a site for long-term interventions, performative events, and community activities. The long-term transformation of the Chittussi Hospital premises is being implemented with the financial support of the European Union, the Ministry of Culture, FaVU VUT, the City of Prague, and the Prague 6 City District.
