Imagine a crew of superwomen who said, “That’s enough!” and charged into battle with prejudice like a mouse at an army of cats. They call themselves the Laundry Collective (Kolektiv Prádelna)—not only do they air dirty laundry (literally), they also break down stereotypes about people experiencing homelessness. Their secret weapon is a mobile laundry.

They gather, write poems about life on the street, and make videos. Why? Because life sometimes feels like a broken washing machine, and because they know poverty isn’t just about an empty wallet—it’s also about lonely souls searching for a signal of human connection. And when they say “culture” or “art,” they don’t just mean openings and canapés. They imagine the artist more like a ninja—sexy but razor-sharp, slipping through the air vents of prejudice and smashing barriers between people. And their laundry on wheels? It’s not just a laundry on wheels; it’s an oasis of solidarity in the midst of desolation. While a T-shirt spins in the wash, friendships are born. Because a revolution is simply better lived in clean socks.

The book you’re holding isn’t just a set of illustrations and interviews conducted among the members of Prádelna or with their collaborators. It’s also a collection of poetry and a stash of rolling papers and filters. It’s made for reading anywhere—even while you wait for clean laundry.

The Laundry Collective has been active since 2020. In 2022, their film How to Express the Desire of the Impossible appeared at the performance festival We Are All Emotional! and won first prize at the Marienbad Film Festival. At the Matter of Art Prague Biennial 2022, members of the group occupied a selected room in the exhibition space of the Prague City Gallery. In 2023, they were invited to the Kyiv Biennial held in Vienna, where they presented their video That Yellow Is Black. Since 2024, during the summer months, they have been operating their mobile laundry in the Prague neighborhood of Jahodnice.
