Hana Garová
Hana Garová (*1986, Bratislava, Slovakia, based in Prague) has established herself as an expressive painter who explores the very terrain that “expression” offers. She materializes the possibilities of expression in various ways, examining both the levels of meaningful communication and those of obscurity. The immersion in the painterly medium, the speed and unrestrained nature of the gestural line, is balanced by the overlapping of layers, the weakening of descriptiveness, and the dissolution of objectivity and figuration in a stream of constant transformations. Her drawings and paintings externalize her unsettling fantasy world and the dark substance in art that drives it.
In 2013 she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (AVU), where she studied in the painting studio of Vladimír Skrepl. She has presented her work in solo exhibitions such as: Conquistador at Galerie Dům in Broumov (2025), Gatekeeper at House of Art České Budějovice (2023), Show me the body at the arto.to Gallery of Contemporary Art in the Coal Mill in Libčice nad Vltavou (2023), Interrupted Signal at Photoport in Bratislava (2022), and as part of the group exhibitions TO/IT at HYB4 Gallery in Prague (2025), Warm Inflation at GAMU in Prague (2023), Fucking Painting at Zahorian & Van Espen in Prague (2021), B-Sides at HotDock Project Space in Bratislava (2019), and Black Horses at the Richard Adam Gallery in Brno (2015). In 2017 she won third place in the prestigious VÚB Painting of the Year competition, and in 2024 she became a laureate of the NOVUM Foundation.
