Gleb Amankulov

Gleb Amankulov (*1988, Minsk, Belarus) is a Belarusian artist currently based in Vienna. He works with temporary site-specific arrangements using found and borrowed furniture / utensils / objects of interior design. In his practice he reflects upon the economy of art production, the distribution of power, and notions of identity. He is also interested in displaying, highlighting, and challenging the formal, contextual, and historical aspects of used/found/borrowed objects as well as reflecting on the context and space they appear in.

He completed his degree at the Belarusian State Academy of Arts in Minsk and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, where he studied sculpture and spatial strategies under Prof. Monica Bonvicini and Prof. Iman Issa. He has participated in various group exhibitions, and his works have been shown at the Leopold Museum, WAF Galerie, Tanzquartier Wien, hoast, periscope Salzburg, the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, etc.

He received the Academy Prize from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and the Kunsthalle Wien Preis, both in 2022, and he was shortlisted for the Ö1 Talent Grant 2022 and received the Start-Stipendium für bildende Kunst 2022 from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Housing, Arts, Culture, Media and Sport.
