AMVK (*1951, Antwerp, Belgium) is an Antwerp-based artist. In her drawings, works on synthetic materials and textiles, as well as in her videos, murals, and installations, the erotic meets machine-fetishism with a straightforward feminist tone, while blending science, philosophy, mysticism, technology, and social issues. Text has always featured alongside images in her work, and she is fascinated by the kinetic power of every language. She investigates areas of the subconscious and looks at moral aberrations from a female point of view. Music plays an important role in AMVK’s creative production, and with her partner Danny Devos, she is part of key experimental band Club Moral.
Over the last fifty years her work has been shown in Europe, Asia, and America, where she has also lectured and performed. In 2022 she was the second artist featured in the FAÇADE series at KANAL in Brussels. She has had solo shows at M HKA in Antwerp (2018 and 1999), Kunstverein Hannover (2017), Museum Abteiberg in Mönchengladbach (2016), Kunstverein München (2014); Mu.ZEE in Ostend (2012), and The Renaissance Society in Chicago (2011). In 2009 she exhibited at Kunsthalle Nurnberg and FRAC Pays de la Loire in Carquefou, and in 2008 at Kunstmuseum Luzern, WIELS in Brussels, and Manifesta 7 in Trento, Italy.
Her work is held in collections including Kunsthalle Bern; Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, Brussels; M HKA; S.M.A.K.; Mu.ZEE; and the University of Chicago.
