A performative take on the glossary of symbols created for the biennale by the design studio The Rodina
The Rodina (Tereza and Vit Ruller) is a post-critical design studio with an experimental practice drenched in strategies of performance art, play, and subversion. The Rodina has elaborated a notion of “performative design” that goes beyond the surface of representation and transposes the inert physical object into the social realm, uplifting its political potential. Together with the curators of Matter of Art 2024, they have crafted a glossary of symbols for the visual identity of the biennale. It introduces various tools, notions, gestures, living beings, and materials that make up the complex political landscapes that the curators and the invited artists are navigating. Through the use of tokens, The Rodina will perform to activate various materials, texts, and publications, produced within the framework of the curatorial research on life and work beyond the rural–urban divide.
This event is part of the program of the first day of the Biennale opening weekend.
