Doris Uhlich (*1977) challenges conventional formats and body images. She works with people with different biographies, exploring whether classical ballet can be translated into contemporary contexts and opening the dance floor to people with physical disabilities. She shows the potential of nudity beyond simple eroticization and provocation, examines the relationship between man and machine in a multi-faced manner, and deals with the future of the human body in the age of its surgical and genetic perfection. She was nominated for “Dancer of the Year” in 2011 and 2015 and “Choreographer of the Year” in 2018 and 2019 by the magazine tanz, and she has received numerous acknowledgments, including the 2013 “Outstanding Artist Award” in the category “Performing Arts” from the Austrian Ministry of the Arts and Culture. She lives and works in Vienna.
