David Apakidze (*1998, Poti, Georgia) is a visual artist, curator, art historian, and researcher. He cocreated the Caucasia-based queer art platform Fungus Project as well as the Fungus Gallery. He is a cofounder of the Creative Collective Spectrum and the avant-garde bar Klara. In his artistic research he explores contemporary culture as it relates to his identity. He studied art history at the Tbilisi State Academy of Art. This course of study placed an emphasis on medieval Orthodox art, which greatly influenced Apakidze’s artistic perspective. Much of his work revolves around queering Georgian Orthodox imagery as he seeks to uncover queer codes within Georgian culture.

This residency is funded by the European Union (Culture Moves Europe) and the ERSTE Foundation.
