Closing weeks: AIDS, cross-stitch, and Frantz Fanon.

In cooperation with the Goethe-Institut, the biennale will present the film Rescue the Fire on September 11. The film focuses on photographer Jürgen Baldiga, who documented his life, illness, and the AIDS crisis. A lecture by historian Ben Miller on queer history, the HIV/AIDS epidemic, and community memory will follow at 7:00 p.m. On September 3–6, Syrian-Palestinian artist Nour Shantout will present the history of Palestinian embroidery, or tatreez, at the National Gallery Prague.

A lecture (September 3) will be followed by a three-day workshop (September 4–6). On Saturday, September 12, the Trade Fair Palace will host a guided tour with curator Jakub Gawkowski, followed by a discussion of a new book about Ukrainian artist Davyd Chychkan, whose graphic works portray fighters resisting the Russian invasion.

Several events will also take place at the community Tent, the central meeting place within the biennale installation at the Trade Fair Palace. These will include two collective reading sessions by kroužek intersekce, focusing on artistic activism and the work of postcolonial thinker Frantz Fanon, as well as a songwriting workshop dedicated to Indonesian composer Ismail Marzuki. The final day of the Prague section of the biennale, Sunday, September 13, will feature a performance by Szymon Adamczak, a guided tour with the curatorial team, and a live stream by community radio Shella Radio from the Great Hall of the Trade Fair Palace. The complete exhibition can be visited for the last time on September 13. As part of the biennale, GAMPA – City Gallery Pardubice will present Paul B. Preciado’s film Orlando, My Political Biography at its summer cinema on September 10. The screening will be preceded by a guided tour at 7:00 p.m. The exhibition at GAMPA will continue until September 26, when it will close with a performance by András Cséfalvay.
