What is the role of art and culture in times of political crisis? That is the focus of the artist talk with Alina Sokolova, the Ukrainian artist based in Vienna and the curator of the biennale In the matter of art Jaroslava Tomanová. The artist talk is part of the current Alina Sokolova’s exhibition Ambivalent Feeling of Staying Alive.

The exhibition presents works created between 2022 and 2025, exploring the fragile, unsettling experience of living in an era of staggering instability. For the artist, the large and small figurative pieces serve as chronicles of contemporary life, capturing fleeting gestures and reflecting the anguishing contradictions of a world in which survival feels both urgent and uncertain as the fundamental right to exist is increasingly under threat.

Alina Sokolova is Erste Bank Art Awardee 2025. This annual prize was developed by DAS WEISSE HAUS and the Erste Bank Sponsoring Programme. For the 2025 edition, the Austrian Cultural Forum Prague was the award's international partner.
